What
is a Silent Heart Attack
A silent heart attack can be more dangerous than a normal one. A heart
attack is also known as myocardial infarction. This condition occurs
when the blood flow to the heart is obstructed.
When the heart stops
receiving the amount of blood that it needs a shortage of oxygen occurs
as well. If oxygen is not quickly supplied to the heart, the tissue
will start dying. Heart attacks are a major cause of death and several
other disabilities. Not all heart attacks are fatal; most of them can
be treated appropriately as long as people are aware of them.
The main problem occurs when a silent heart attack strikes. Normally a
heart attack is accompanied by chest pain, pain in the arms and
sometimes pain in the jaw. The pain near the jaw is often mistaken by a
toothache and the one in the chest is usually confused by heartburn or
indigestion. The discomfort in the arm is also confused by a pulled
muscle. The silent type is even worst because no symptom is associated
with it. This is extremely dangerous as the tissue in the heart can
suffer irreversible damage if the person does not take care of the
problem soon. There is still one way that can help you tell if you are
experiencing a silent heart attack.
Breathing is key to know if you are suffering a heart attack. Even if
the attack is not showing the normal pain it still impacts your body.
The lack of blood in the heart will create a shortness of breath and
your body will signal you if something inside is potentially dangerous.
This type of myocardial infarction is more frequent on people that have
suffered previous heart attacks, people over 65 years old and
diabetics. It has been reported that women are more prone to experience
sudden death as a result of heart problems. People with a long history
of heart disease are very vulnerable to the silent attacks too. This
situation arises because the nerves near the heart are damaged and the
person will not be able to feel the pain.
There are many measures that you can take in order to prevent being a
victim of heart problems. If you like drinking alcohol and smoking you
better stop it immediately especially if you belong to a high risk
group like diabetics, people that are overweight or had previous
attacks. Start eating healthy and in the moment you think something
might be wrong with your heart go to your doctor asap.
