Salt Free
Seasonings
When
cooking salt free seasonings are indispensable, even more when someone
has a condition that requires it. Most of us consume too much salt and
for some this
can actually harm their health resulting in high blood pressure, water
retention and more serious conditions such as congestive heart
failure.
The problem is that we have become so used to
salt in all of our meals that food often tastes quite bland without it.
The truth is that eating with limited salt does not have mean eating
tasteless meals. Many herbs and spices can add flavor to your food
without harming your health. It simply takes a little experimenting to
find healthy seasoning choices for your dishes.
To help you get started
here are three simple ideas that will add interest and taste
to various foods. These salt free seasonings are easy to make and is
likely that you
already have most of the ingredients right in your cupboard.
Meat and Veggie Seasoning

1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp paprika
1 ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
1 ½ teaspoon dry mustard powder
½ teaspoon minced dried lemon peel
Mix all ingredients well and place in a glass container. This
seasoning can be used on meat, vegetables, or put on the table for
those who want extra taste.
Meat, Poultry and Fish Seasoning
2 tablespoons onion powder
½ teaspoon dried parsley
½ teaspoon dried basil
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon dried rosemary
Put the seasoning in a glass jar until ready for use. This
seasoning tastes good especially on poultry and fish.

Taco Seasoning
4 tablespoon onion powder
3 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon potato flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon turmeric
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Mix all ingredients together and store in a container. Use
on tacos for additional flavor.
If they are stored right, the seasonings will stay
good for months.
When using them you will agree that eating salt free can be
incredibly flavorful. If you like these recipes, make some more for a
friend or family member that needs to diminish their salt consumption.

Tips: Use a spice grinder if needed and airtight glass containers
for better preservation.
