Feeling
dizzy? You may have postural hypertension without knowing it
The
most important thing when thinking about postural hypertension is
undoubtedly your health. With so many health concerns out there, its
easy to
focus solely on your weight, cancer, or diabetes.
Some
of the more
well known diseases out there dominate the headlines. This is why it is
essential to take great
care of yourself. However, there
are smaller problems that you should be aware of as well.
What exactly is it and what does it mean to
you?
Have
you ever been sitting down relaxing on the couch and then you suddenly
need to get up for something? When you stand up in a hurry, all of a
sudden everything starts to feel strange. You begin to feel dizzy and
maybe even a little nauseous. Your eyes start to go a little bit black
and you feel like you need to sit down. What is going on? This is a
case of postural hypertension. Almost everyone has experienced
it at
some point, while some experience it more than others.
Postural High Blood Pressure Causes
Postural
hypertension can be caused by a number of common conditions. Something
as simple as dehydration can be the source of it. More serious
factors like diabetes and certain medications can cause it as well. It
is basically a stint of low blood pressure whenever you change body
positions. Any of these causes can instigate low blood pressure. This
means that you will need to watch out for a number of different
conditions to prevent this.
It is not usually
life threatening by itself, but it can throw everything into disarray.
When you experience it, you will definitely feel dizziness and most
likely nausea. However, it can also mess with your breathing systems
and circulation as well. Usually it will return to normal, but when it
happens, it can really throw you for a loop.
Treating it
There
is not an exact answer to treat every case of this type of
hypertension.
Unlike other forms of hypertension, there isn't a single method that
you can use on the majority of the cases. Each doctor has to look at
the cases individually. Since there are so many different causes, the
doctor will have to figure out the root
before a treatment is decided. There are a few
prescriptions that doctors will prescribe in certain
scenarios.
They will also recommend getting up more carefully from a seated
position. Low blood pressure can also be prevented by drinking a high
volume of water as well. This is one of the simplest and yet most
effective treatments available.
Overall, postural hypertension
isn't one of the most life-threatening conditions out there, but it can
also be an indicator of something bigger. Watch out for it and visit a
doctor if you experience it often.
