What is the Normal Blood Pressure Level

Everybody wants to have a normal blood pressure level. Blood pressure is the amount of force that the blood exerts on the blood vessel walls. This pressure is one of the major vital signs.

The blood pressure must be kept under control at all times. High blood pressure generally does not show any symptoms which is the reason to keep constantly monitoring it.

The only way for you to know if you have it is by going to the doctor. The best time to get your blood pressure checked is a couple of hours after you have woken up. You must remember to avoid drinking alcohol or smoking before taking your reading otherwise it won’t be accurate enough. Once in there the doctor will check your pressure using a device called the sphygmomanometer.

This device is like a cuff that goes around your arm. Once the apparatus start inflating it will start measuring your blood pressure. Once it has been measured it will deflate again and your doctor will inform you of the reading. The average or normal blood pressure level for an adult is considered to be 120/80mmHg. You might be thinking what the number in top and the one in the bottom means. Well the number at the top is the systolic blood pressure and the one in Doctor checking the blood pressure of a patientthe bottom is the diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the pressure that occurs when the heart is contracting and the diastolic one is the pressure when the heart is in a relaxed state.

Even when the maximum pressure that is considered a normal blood pressure level is 120/80mmHg is preferable that your pressure ranges from 90-119 systolic and 60 to 79 diastolic. Any pressure lower than that is considered hypotension which can also be dangerous. Hypotension can lead to suffer heart failure if it gets too low because the heart must have a moderate amount of force to deliver the blood to all the areas in the body.

Hypertension or high blood pressure is quite the opposite of hypotension but has dangers of its own. If your blood pressure ranges from 140/90mmHg to 159/99mmHg you have what is called stage 1 hypertension. There 4 stages of hypertension and the higher it goes the more dangerous is going to be. If your blood pressure is around the normal levels is advisable to visit your doctor once in a while to make sure it stays that way.
